“Can we see a sample?” is the question that starts every serious wipes project — and the answer usually decides whether a brand proceeds or stalls. At NINGBO RIWAY NONWOVENS TECH CO., LTD., our standard sample takes about 3 days and a custom sample takes 5–10 days. But what you get in those windows — and what slows them down — is worth understanding before you brief a supplier.
Standard samples: about 3 days
A standard sample uses existing materials, formulas and packaging components. If your request fits one of our established configurations — a standard nonwoven GSM, a common sheet size, an existing formula — we can produce it quickly because the line setup already exists. This is the fastest path to validating a look and feel, and it is the right first step for almost every project.
Custom samples: 5–10 days
A custom sample changes one or more variables: a new formula, a different nonwoven material, a custom sheet size or folding pattern, a new fragrance or liquid system. Each change means a new mixing batch, a material check and additional testing, which is why the window stretches to 5–10 days. Environmental or performance claims (biodegradable, compostable, flushable support) add an evidence step: we tie those claims to material-specific testing rather than stating them loosely.
What actually affects sampling speed
Three things dominate: formula complexity (new active ingredients or liquid systems take longer), material availability (plant-based options like bamboo fiber or specialty constructions may need ordering), and packaging customization (printed film and custom lids depend on plate-making and mold lead times). If your sample includes custom packaging, ask your supplier to split the timeline — a plain-material sample can arrive in days while the printed version follows.
Plan the sequence
For a market launch, sequence it like this: 1) standard sample in ~3 days to lock look and feel; 2) custom sample in 5–10 days to lock formula and material; 3) trial order of 5,000–20,000 packs; 4) standard production at approximately 30 days. The total path from first sample to container is usually 6–10 weeks for a straightforward private label project. Fixed launch dates? Start the conversation at least two months out.
Questions to ask your supplier
Ask for the sample breakdown in writing: what is included, what takes 3 days versus 10, and what depends on external components like film printing or custom lids. Transparency at this stage prevents surprises at the production milestone.

Q: How long does a wet wipes sample take?
A: Standard samples take about 3 days; custom samples (formula, material or packaging changes) take 5–10 days.
Q: Why does a custom sample take longer?
A: Each change — new formula, material, size or packaging — requires a new mixing batch, material check and testing. Custom packaging depends on external plate-making and mold timelines.
Q: Can I get a sample before committing to an MOQ?
A: Yes — sampling is always the first step, and standard samples are available quickly before any order commitment.
